Positional Asphyxiation Awareness

Positional asphyxia or also known as postural asphyxia, is a form of asphyxia which occurs when someone's position prevents the person from breathing adequately. (wikipedia...)

An 11 month infant Shepard Dodd from Oklahoma died of Positional Asphyxiation while being looked by the home daycare provider. Baby Shepard's parents Derick and Alley shared their tragic story to warn all other parents that this simple mistake could be a worst nightmare. It was told that baby Shepard was put in an un-buckled car seat and left alone.
In a Youtube video entitled "Oklahoma Child Died Sleeping In Car Seat" expert explained that an infant should always be laid on their back flat so that head scooching and swinging that could cause shortening of breath could be avoided. Infants aren't able to  control their head when put in a car seat so proper positioning is very important.

This incident should be a learning advice to all home care providers, parents and adults. Always make sure that you 're keeping an eye to infants, making sure they're in their proper sleeping position and never ever leave them alone in a car seat.
