E-Learning and its Importance to Freelancing

We are living in the computer era where everything is very accessible in just one click. Many of our everyday tasks became easier because of the consistent improving technology. Computers have been a great tool in acquiring knowledge even before the existence of internet.  Since internet has been invented, it became the center of the whole wide world. Internet is considered as a precious gift of modern Science. It has created a fundamental change in the field of communication. Computers, gadgets plus internet changed the slow moving life of every people to an instant way of living.

Many years have passed since people learned how to use internet and its importance in our daily lives. Social media became part of people’s daily lives whether for personal or business purposes. Online job sites became very popular and online freelancing is now considered as one of the main source of living for most people in many different countries.

The evolution of social media, online business and Online Freelancing resulted to growing demands of knowledge and this is where E-Learning started to evolve in the internet world.

E-Learning or Educational technology is defined by the Association for Educational Communications and Technology as "the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using, and managing appropriate technological processes and resources. The existence of E-Leaning was in 1999 which was also known as “online learning” and “virtual learning”. Long before the internet has existed, distance learning was already being offered by some correspondence schools where modules, materials and assessment were being sent through post mail. E-learning is a modern way of providing knowledge remotely and it has been proven to be effective and very convenient for most individuals.

One great example of E-Learning is TESDA Online . TESDA offers free trainings to Filipinos of any age. It used to be a vocational program which can be found in every municipality of every city in the Philippines and has been developed as Online Training for easier access. TESDA aims to make technical education more accessible to Filipino Citizens thru the use of internet technology. It provides a more effective and efficient way to deliver technical education and skills development. The program is created for students, out-of-school youths, unemployed adults, workers, and professionals, overseas Filipino workers who would like to take TESDA courses at their own pace and at their own time at the comfort of their desktops or laptop computers.

For other online training, there are many great sites that offer different courses online and most of them are free to use. Most online freelancers study their field of interests online to improve their skills for better job opportunities. Alison – provides over 750 online courses for free with over 7 million registered users. Alison offers free curses to all individual learners. However, a certain amount is required to settle in order to get your certificate or diploma. Alison offers courses ranging from Diploma courses, Business and Enterprise Skills,  Digital Literacy and IT skills, Personal Development and Soft skills, Languages, Schools  curriculum, Health, Safety and Compliance, Health Literacy, Financial and Economic Literacy.

Coursera -provides free universal access to the world’s best education, partnering with top universities and organizations to offer courses online. Course Categories that Coursera offers are:  Arts and Humanities, Business, Computer Science, Data Science, Life Sciences, Math and Logic, Personal Development, Physical Science and Engineering, Social Sciences and Language Learning.
